David believed his family had finally found happiness again.

After losing his first wife several years earlier, he worked hard to give his daughter, Emma, a peaceful life. When he married Lisa, he hoped Emma would have someone to care for her while he was at work. Lisa also had a daughter, Chloe, who was about Emma’s age. David dreamed that the two girls would grow up like sisters.

Every morning, before leaving for work, David hugged Emma and reminded her to take her medicine if she didn’t feel well.

“Promise me you’ll rest today,” he said with a smile.

David kissed her forehead and walked out the front door.
